2014 Annual Christmas Potluck
From the Eyes of a New Employee
At VP Demand Creation Services, we have a Christmas party tradition. As a new employee, this was my first experience of the company’s holiday potluck, and all the warmth and kindness that comes along with it.
Our president, Dave Moore, kicked off our luncheon by asking all employees to stand up so that he could recognize their hard work and dedication that took place this past year. Going through a list of employees, he kindly congratulated all of those who have been with VP for a significant time, earning themselves service awards for 10, 15, 20, and more years of service. I was shocked to see all the employees who remained standing for the 20 or more years of service awards.
Looking around the room, I realized just the kind of company I was now working for: one that believes, invests, and supports their employees. Why else would so many people have stayed for the longevity of their careers?
As a VP tradition, which has been in place since 2007, the Traverse City Central High School’s Choral-Aires serenaded us during the potluck luncheon. I was amazed by their talent and beautiful voices that filled the room. This group of 15 high school students had the range of a full choir, and the gorgeous, soprano vibrato you would expect from a professional chorale group. I had heard rumors of the Christmas Spirit the Choral-Aires bring, but experiencing it first hand was magical.
However, to me, the most important part of the Christmas potluck, besides the delicious food and great music, was the opportunity to get to know my fellow colleagues. With the busyness of graduating from college and relocating to Traverse City, it gave me very little time to get to know the people of VP, but the potluck gave me the chance to meet people outside my department.
Learning more about them and hearing all the funny and wonderful stories from my colleagues about their time here, made me proud to be a part of this team. We have so many great people working here and I am very lucky to have the opportunity to join the team of professional, kind-hearted, and dedicated people that make VP such a magnificent place to work.
